Second Round's On Me Album Review

When Obie Trice unleashed his debut album Cheers, back in 2003, many expected it to be a middle of the road album. Psych! Though the release didn't do Eminem/50 Cent numbers, it gave Obie both respectability within the industry and a major problem. How the hell could he come with a sophomore release that could match the same quality production, intensity and sincerity? Nearly three years (and several release date changes) later, comes Second Round's On Me.

Similar to almost any release from the Shady Records crew, the production is solid from tracks one through eighteen. Lending his hand in eight of the cuts is Obie's boss, Eminem, who on his own Sirius Satelitte station (Shade 45) compared Obie's new album to that of a 2pac or Bigge record. Though this release is a solid offering from Obie Trice, a 2pac/Bigge type classic it certainly is not. Especially, after the lead single was changed four times (Wanna Know, Snitch, Cry Now, Jamaican Girl).

The overall flow of the album is solid and there simply isn’t much track hopping to do. Always a plus to never worry about where your remote lies, the only skipping being done is through the inside jacket sleeve of the CD. The liner notes include pictures from the hospital after Obie was shot on a Detroit highway this past January. Not only did he live, but with his new album he is back to tell about it.
