[NAMM 2013] Gemini GMX Pro Announced

Posted 3 years ago by

In advance of the NAMM 2013 show, Gemini DJ has announced a new all-in-one DJ controller and Mixstation that is capable of playing music through a USB device using Gemini's own VCASE internal music management system or by connecting it to a computer for DJ controller playback with the included Virtual DJ LE software.

Similar to the Pioneer XDJ-AERO and Stanton's own SCS.4DJ, the Gemini GMX Pro can work as a completely standalone unit which users can mix, scratch, and perform on without the need to use a computer. The GMX Pro will work with the VCASE music management software to organize and prepare music on a USB drive (similar to Pioneer's Rekordbox) for a seamless playback experience on the GMX Pro. The GMX Pro can also be connected to a computer to use it as a full out MIDI DJ controller with the software of your choice. The GMX Pro will come with Virtual DJ LE already in the box.

The GMX Pro has high resolution and mechanical (push-top) style jog wheels and a rather different layout than anything I've seen before. The jog wheels are positioned towards the bottom with tempo pitch sliders put towards the top of the unit next to the screens. Each deck has its own screen to display track information and a small waveform. I can also see four cue point buttons above the jog wheels and Play/Pause and Cue Buttons positioned just where they would be on a CDJ-700... I also see a few buttons and knobs that could be used for loops and effects.

The Gemini GMX Pro doesn't seem to have a bunch of effects knobs nor do I see a bunch of buttons for super MIDI performers, but it looks like a great device for Mobile DJ's who don't want to take a computer with them when its time to put on a show. There is great versatility here with the ability to perform with or without a computer. The Gemini GMX-Pro is due out in April and we'll try to get our hands on one for a full HD-Video review. For now check out the full press release below for more information.

Gemini releases the ‘GMX Pro’ Compact Form Media Controller

Anaheim, CA – January 7th, 2013 Gemini, an esteemed manufacturer of DJ and Pro Audio equipment, is pleased to exhibit the GMX Pro, a full featured media controller within a compact form factor. Gemini will give NAMM attendees a chance to see their new product and take it for a test spin at Booth 5700 Hall B.

The GMX Pro is a versatile media controller for the DJ who desires portability and multi-functionality. DJ’s can playback tracks from a single USB drive or from a laptop as a versatile software controller for Virtual DJ or another host application, the newly designed touch-sensitive mechanical jog wheel and high-resolution 14-bit USB/MIDI digital signal ensure precise and intuitive control over every aspect of playback, mixing, and effects.

With all the features a working DJ regularly employs such as: variable pitch control, master tempo control, auto-beat loop, and hot cues the GMX Pro offers beginners or professionals alike the opportunity to have a single, lightweight, and compact media controller for live, studio, or home use. As a 24-bit PC/MAC audio interface with multiple high quality output options: monitoring, recording, and playback through a sound system are simultaneously available.

Aside from great sound, the high-contrast screens, adjustable waveform display, 7 step LED level monitoring, and backlit function buttons provide visual feedback of the performance and take the guesswork out of setting cues, edits, and loops.

GMX Pro includes Virtual DJ LE and VCASE music management software and is compatible with other popular DJ software applications.
