Pioneer CDJ-900NXS Media Player

Pioneer has just announced the new CDJ-900NXS multi-media player which is an update to the hugely popular CDJ-900 that adds a new high-resolution color display, better looping abilities, and full Rekordbox compatibility which will allow users to play music stored inside of smart phones, tablets, and PC's using a Wi-Fi or USB connection.

The first obvious upgrade from the original CDJ-900 (which we reviewed here) is the new LCD screen which is essentially pulled directly from the CDJ-2000nexus decks which improve browsing, waveform display, beat counts, and phase meter. The next huge upgrade is the full compatibility with the Rekordbox software and app which allows users to manage and playback music using smartphones or computers via a network.

The CDJ-900NXS also gets the Sync feature from the CDJ-2000nexus that will allow DJ's to link up to four units together to have them all working in perfect BPM harmony. There's a new Beat Divide button that allows DJ's to slice and loop-roll the music for some cool new effects. The Slip Mode is back and there's also a Quantize mode so that all tracks, loops, and cue points remain in rhythm with the Master tempo.

With the announcement of the CDJ-900NXS, it would seem the gap between the top tier units grows slimmer and slimmer. The CDJ-2000nexus still has some features that the CDJ-900NXS is lacking such as hot cues, SD card slot, and needle search, but I'd have to assume most DJ's will probably opt for the cheaper CDJ-900NXS and save some extra cash for other necessities and DJ gear.

The Pioneer CDJ-900NXS is due to hit the store shelves sometime in January 2014 and the US price will be $1699. Check out the pioneer website in the link below for more information and be sure to watch this space for a review sometime in the near future.
