Behringer Europower EPQ2000 Amplifier

Posted 3 years ago by

Last year we brought you a full HD-Video review on the Behringer B212A powered 12-inch speakers.  They were a great set of speakers, so we decided to go ahead and review the same speaker, but without the built in amplifier.  Some DJ’s (myself included) like to have separate amplifiers and speakers, so Behringer agreed to send me a set of B212XL two-way passive 12-inch speakers along with a Europower EPQ2000 amplifier for a full HD-Video review.  Check out the amp review inside.

Setup & First Impressions

The Behringer EPQ line of amplifiers all boast the new Accelerated Transient Response technology in a lightweight package. Basically what it means is that they pack good power and they don’t weigh as much as traditional amplifiers. The Behringer EPQ2000 has a total power rating of 1000 watts per channel at 4 ohms and 600 watts per channel at 8 ohms.

We tested the EPQ2000 with the Behringer B212XL 12-inch two-way speakers for a total two-hour continuous session with the volumes set at 50% or higher with fantastic results. The amplifier performed just as good as my Crown amp normally does and there were no issues or cut-offs to speak of. The amplifier is a bit louder than my other amplifiers, but it wasn’t something I’d worry about in the least. The amplification was continuous and didn’t drop off at any point in our test run. This is a really smooth amp with lots of input and output options. There are a set of XLR inputs, quarter-inch TRS inputs, and RCA inputs on the back. For the outputs, there are two speakon connections and bare wire poles for speakers. We used Speakon to Speakon connections for this test, but I’m sure the bare wire or banana plugs would have also worked nicely if necessary.

Conclusion / Recommended For

In conclusion, the Behringer Europower EPQ2000 Amplifier was better than I initially anticipated. The 600 watts per channel was adequate to bump the speakers throughout our test. There is a plethora of inputs and outputs for DJ’s to choose from and they are very affordable. The Blue LED’s on the front do a great job of monitoring the performance and keeping the DJ informed at a glance. On the downside, the Europower EPQ2000 doesn’t physically feel as strong as other competitor’s amplifiers and there are no Push-Lock style connections for the XLR inputs. If DJ’s can get over these minor issues, then the EPQ2000 may just be right for them. The Europower EPQ2000 isn’t on the same level as the QSC or Crown amplifiers in terms of power delivery and overall quality just yet, but they do perform nicely and they are definitely worth the price they are offered at. I recommend the Europower EPQ2000 to DJ’s who don’t want to break the bank for an adequate amplifier to get them through their small to medium sized gigs. This amplifier is also good for monitoring and bedroom applications as well.
