Around The DJBooth we live and breath hip-hop, which means that when we don't have our headphones on listening to the dopest new music, we have our headphones on, our Netflix accounts open and we're watching some dope hip-hop movies. With the long holiday weekend on its way you're going to be (hopefully) spending some time relaxing on the couch, so it seemed like the perfect time to talk "The Best Hip-Hop Movies Ever". Our friends at Green Label Sound have compiled a top-ten list ranging from 8 Mile to Style Wars that's an essential watching guide.

Here's what they had to say about "Boyz in the Hood", a flick that inarguably deserves a spot among the best:

"There are a number of movies that contend for the role of the best hip-hop crime epic: 'New Jack City', 'Menace II Society', 'Juice', 'Above the Rim' and 'Belly'. However, when the Library of Congress selects a movie for preservation in the National Film Registry and deems it “culturally significant,” that means something. 'Boyz n the Hood' is noted for rapper/actor Ice Cube’s first role, and helped prove that emcees could succeed on the silver screen. The gritty drama puts on full display the rough life in South Central Los Angeles, and has become as name-checked as any film in rappers’ rhymes."

Did they include your favorite hip-hop movie? Who would you have liked to see in there? (Personally we always loved CB4, you gotta get a comedy in there.) Check out all ten of Green Label's selections for Best Hip-Hop Movie and share your own!
