10 Thoughts from My “Watch The Throne Tour” Experience [Exclusive Coverage]

Chicago, Ill. -- What do you do when you're Kanye West and Jay-Z, and you've just released the biggest collaborative album in hip-hop history? You follow it up by co-headlining the biggest, flashiest tour ever unleashed on North American stadiums, of course! Our very own DJ Z witnessed the unparalleled spectacle that is The Throne's live show when the Watch the Throne Tour (running from October 29, to December 17) visited Chi-town's United Center on Wednesday, November 30, and he jotted down a few observations on the experience. Read on for his reactions, presented in handy list format...

1. Artists like Kanye and Jay do not need openers. Amazingly, there were no openers. Whoever made that decision (Kanye? Roc Nation?) gets "it."

2. Apparently Kanye is trying to popularize kilts, who knew?

3. Jay-Z rocked an unfitted New York Yankees cap. Isn't this considered sacrilegious?

4. Pyrotechnics are entertaining and they add a "wow factor" to almost any show, but not when they are overused. I didn't count, but I am pretty sure they were used close to 100 times. Excess cheapens everything.

5. When Kanye performed solo material there were strobe lights, lasers, and lots of added hoopla. When Jay performed solo material it was just him and the audience. Nothing fazes Jay-Z on stage, but you can tell he doesn't love all the added window dressing.

6. Jay-Z is 42 years old, and starting to look older, but the man shows no signs of slower down or letting his age get the best of him. He barely broke a sweat on stage.

7. Kanye gave the entire audience - white folks included - permission to rap the entire line: "Something wrong, I hold my head. MJ gone, our ni**a dead." After three do-overs, the entire sold-out crowd did as West asked. Even Kanye was surprised it only took three do-overs; seemed like he was ready for a fourth or fifth try.

8. Upon first listen I wasn't a huge fan of "Made In America," but their live performance of the song was extraordinary. This was aided by a gripping visual display, which flashed controversial images on two large video boards behind the emcees.

9. "N*ggas in Paris" was performed twice during the show and six more times during the encore. It was clear that most concertgoers love the song, and it was an experience to see them perform it live, but after rendition #4 it got stale.

10. #WTT Tour was the best hip hop show I have ever seen.... in a large arena. As we all know, hip hop is best experienced in a small, intimate venue.
