Beyonce & Jay Z Are Richest Celebrity Couple, Drama Pays
On Forbes’ annual Celeb 100 list, Jay and Bey took the crown as the highest-earning couple by pulling in a combined $107.5 million. Beyoncé nabbed the no. 34 spot overall with $54 million in earnings, while Jay was only a couple million behind, ranked no. 36 with $53.5 million.
For some perspective: the only other couple that places both members in the Celeb 100 were four-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and his supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen, who brought in a combined $74.5 million ($44m for Brady, and $30.5m for Bündchen).
Jay was clowned on Twitter (and in barbershops around the country) for his alleged infidelity being put on front street after the release of Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade, but they both ate well from the hit album’s success thanks to their co-ownership of Tidal, the only streaming platform where the album was made available for stream.
So if we’re to believe the story being presented to us, Jay and Bey had trouble in their marriage, they later resolved their issues, and subsequently channeled them into art on the way to being the highest-earning couple in the country. How’s that for relationship goals?
In addition to her acclaimed album, Bey also performed 19 shows between June 2015 and June 2016, which was the scoring period for the Forbes list. And while Jay didn’t release music or tour over the past year like his wife, that $53.5 million didn’t come out of thin air; he’s been busy stacking checks from Roc Nation, his record label/artist management/sports agency company, and from alcohol companies D’usse and Armand de Brignac.
Even if rhymes weren’t the basis for their earnings over the last year, this has to be seen as a victory for hip-hop. Jay and Bey’s continued success is a daily example of the heights hip-hop is capable of reaching.
