A car accident nearly killed OG Maco, but even with serious injuries he's pushing on and raging as hard as ever.

Less than two weeks ago, OG Maco was in a near-fatal car crash. As a result, Maco has revealed he lost his right eye - along with “multiple skull fractures, broken orbital (surgery next week), cracked vertebrae (surgery next week) and heart palpitations,” he tweeted.

On Tuesday, he posted a photo on Instagram showing the damage to his eye, along with a caption expressing disappointment with comments people have made online about his condition.

“Y’all bastards had all these jokes like I really didn’t lose an eye real quick. I don’t mind. Just remember I never did a thing to you,” he captioned in the photo. “To see a world where the do-ers and dreamers are ridiculed more than losers and conformity is to [sic] worse than missing an eye.”

Maco continued to use social media leading up to the hours before his surgery on Tuesday. “In the hospital, bored, f*cking with people’s day for fun. This is what being old must feel like,” he said. He then posted a video of himself wearing an eye patch. “THANK YOU TO ALL THE WELL WISHES FROM MY FRIENDS, FAMILY AND FANS!!! TIME FOR SURGERY! I FEEL LIKE SCOTT SUMMERS!”

OG Maco isn't the first rapper to lose an eye. Fetty Wap lost an eye to congenital glaucoma, and Bushwick Bill of the Geto Boys lost an eye in a shooting. Slick Rick was blinded in his right eye as an infant by broken glass, and his various eye patches were one of the most iconic images in hip-hop during his rise. All three artists have used their unfortunate circumstances as a way to present themselves as unique, and to garner interest in their music.

That certainly doesn’t make OG Maco’s injuries any less tragic for the impact it may have on his day-to-day life. But seeing Maco appear to be in high spirits is encouraging, and with his individuality as an artist, it seems like he’ll find a way to flip it. Here’s wishing him a healthy, speedy recovery.
