Something we never thought we’d see is a notable hip-hop Broadway musical, yet Lin-Manuel Miranda gave us Hamilton: An American Musical, and the show that has become just as critical for hip-hop as it has for the theater.

Since Hamilton opened on August 6, 2015, the musical has racked up more than a few accolades, including 11 Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize for drama and a GRAMMY Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Oh, Miranda also won a MacArthur Fellowship genius grant, and the First Family loves him. Miranda debuted some early Hamilton material during the White House Poetry Jam in 2009, which became the cornerstone and impetus for the musical — and which is where he won the Obama’s favor.

Last October, after the official Broadway cast album had been released, Miranda teased that a mixtape for the musical, entitled The Hamilton Mixtape, was in the works with Atlantic Records. He tweeted the project would include, “Remixes & Covers & Inspired bys.”

Complex breathed new life into Hamilton when Miranda and Chance The Rapper covered the June/July 2016 issue — particularly because Chance expressed his deep passion for the musical. Now, we also know that the promised mixtape involves some of our favorite musicians: the tape is being produced by Black Thought and ?uestlove of The Roots, and will include features by Busta Rhymes, Common, Chance The Rapper, Sia, Alicia Keys, Regina Spektor, Queen Latifah, Jimmy Fallon and more.

Black Thought himself is a huge fan of Hamilton. Earlier this month, he told EW, “I wanted to join the cast!,” adding, “I can’t say when or where. But you can expect Hamilton Mixtape performances probably sooner than later. That’s all I can say.”

This means we’ll get to see the mixtape performed live — and with the collection of artists slated to guest on the project, The Hamilton Mixtape and accompanying live performances are sure to be nothing short of amazing.
