Rapsody Reminds Us the Fight Isn’t Over With New “Fire”

The Raleigh native's motivational new record is just a taste of what's ahead.

Following the results of Tuesday’s (November 8) presidential election, a multitude of artists have come out against victor Donald Trump in the form of open letters, tweets, and music.

Recent Roc Nation signee and longtime Jamla Army member Rapsody has officially thrown her hat into that ring with the release of her new record “Fire,” produced by Kash, Khrysis and 9th Wonder.

The Raleigh native offers words of motivation and reassurance across the five-minute track, displaying the thoughtfulness and lyrical precision that has made her one of an essential emcee in modern day hip-hop.

Halfway through the song, the beat switches up and Rapsody spends the last few minutes flawlessly playing her lines off the “losing our minds” refrain from Gil Scott-Heron and Brian Jackson’s “We Almost Lost Detroit,” which I’m a complete sucker for.

"Fire" was premiered on Rapsody’s website along with photocopies of her handwritten lyrics and exciting surprise—a graphic with the title ‘#wheresyourcrown’ and a countdown timer, possibly alluding to an upcoming project.

Considering Rapsody hasn’t delivered a proper release since announcing her joint venture with Roc Nation, she’s due for some greatness, and “Fire” may just be the tip of the iceberg.
