Future Earns First Solo Top 10 Single Thanks to “Mask Off” Viral Challenge
Thanks to the growing popularity of the #MaskOffChallenge, the social media-inspired viral trend that has helped to keep Future's "Mask Off" single on repeat for the past three weeks, the ATL hitmaker has finally earned a spot by himself in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in his seven-year career.
After climbing seven spots last week, Future's "Mask Off" will jump another four spots this week, heading north from No. 11 to No. 7 and breaking into the top 10.
In 2016, Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane's "Black Beatles" single rode a similar viral wave to No. 1.
Prior to "Mask Off," Future's only other trip into the top 10 came as a featured guest on Lil Wayne's 2013 single "Love Me" from his I Am Not a Human Being II album. As as a lead artist, however, Future's previous high was for 2015's "Jumpman" alongside Drake, which peaked at No. 12.
Not only is "Mask Off" Future's highest-charting record to date, it also marks his first solo single to break into the top 40 without the benefit of a big name sidekick—"Where Ya At," featuring Drake, peaked at No. 28; "Low Life," featuring The Weeknd, peaked at No. 18; and "Used to This," again featuring Drake, peaked at No. 14.
