Rick Ross Doesn’t Sign Female Rappers Because He Has a Dick (Apparently)

On Monday (July 24), Rick Ross stopped by The Breakfast Club for an interview to discuss his new VH1 reality show Signed and Meek Mill's new album, Wins & Losses. After listening to him explain why he has yet to sign a female emcee to his label, Maybach Music Group, though, I'm starting to think Ross might have actually come up with the second half of Meek's album title.

"You know, I never did it because I always thought I would end up fucking the female rapper [and] fucking the business up," Ross told Breakfast Club co-host Angela Yee. "I'm so focused on my business. I gotta be honest with you. You know she lookin' good, I'm spending so much money on the photo shoot, I gotta fuck you."

I applaud Rick for being honest, something we always ask of artists during interviews, but there are some things that simply shouldn't be said out loud. Or on the radio. Or while being filmed.

Rick's crass comments are not only sexist and demeaning but coming from the owner of a company that employs women, they could easily be viewed as threatening.

Ross, who appears as high as a kite throughout the 30-minute interview, is no stranger to controversial remarks, either. In 2013, the Miami native issued an apology for a lyric on Rocko's "U.O.E.N.O." that celebrated rape. As a result, he was dropped from his endorsement deal with Reebok.

To be clear, while I am not equating Ross' ignorant, off-the-cuff comments—what President Donald Trump would call "locker room talk"—with actual sexual abuse, the widespread embrace of rappers who think with their dicks instead of their upstairs brains has become a disturbing trend over the past year. Ross isn't some unknowing youngin', either. He's 41, and he's been in the industry for over a decade.

He should know better. Be better, Rick.

Update: Rick Ross has issued a statement, apologizing for his insensitive comments. Good on you, Rick.
