Download DJBooth's new App, The PLUG San Francisco, Calif. -- Last month, our friends at Activision and Step-3 invited us to San Francisco to attend a hands-on preview event for their brand new DJ Hero video game. Along with a very select group of online media members from various gaming and music sites, DJBooth.net was able to play the final version of the game (which is set for release on October 27th) and speak with several of its developers.

As you know, DJBooth.net is not a gaming site. Thus, it doesn't make much sense for us to provide you, our loyal reader, with a critique of the game and all of its many details (controls, game play, difficulty). Since our audience thoroughly appreciates the hard work of a DJ, however, who better to explain what the game has in store for gamers, hip-hop fans and even DJs than an actual DJ?

Hailing from London, England, DJ Blakey has been a professional DJ since he was 12 years old (in case you're wondering, that was 10 years ago). After his former employer, FreeStyleGames, was purchased by DJ Hero maker Activision in 2008, Blakey began working on the Guitar Hero spinoff. After one year of development work, which included work as the official scratch DJ of the game, Blakey is happily busy, promoting his labor of love.

In an exclusive video interview at the event, DJ Blakey sat down with us to discuss his role in the creation of the game, how realistic the scratching and mixing is compared to the real deal, and whether or not the everyday consumer will be able to truly appreciate the hard work and creativity of a professional DJ.

DJ Hero and the special DJ Hero: Renegade Edition, which features exclusive Jay-Z and Eminem-handpicked records available for mixing, will be available in the U.S. on October 27, for XBox, Playstation 3, and Wii.
