Freddie Gibbs stands calmly in the back of the metro-styled studio. A XXL Freshman, he raps under his breath to his second cut off of Str8 Killa EP which blares through the speakers. The rest of the room nods on rhythm creating a true Hip Hop atmosphere with Freddie at the center. Gibbs springs to life upon greeting; carrying a surprisingly humble demeanor for an artist with such a dominant flow on the microphone.

Gibbs is happy and jubilant as the cogs in the movement turn smoothly around him. Teaming up with Decon Records, Str8 Killa promises to be his best release yet. This Gary, Indiana native has shocked Hip Hop with immense lyricism woven into a flow which dances along beats and rhythms. When asked what goes into creation of his slick verses he explains simply, “I [figure out] the melody of what I want…and just fill it up with words”. He is not a fan of the Blackberry neither, “I don’t write rhymes in my phone…f**k that.”

Str8 Killa turned out to be no different yet more “showing” than his previous projects. Eight nicely aligned tracks each showing off the versatility and true talent of Freddie Gibbs. Bun B, popular yet meticulous endorser of the new class, lays down a fantastic feature on Rock Bottom with Freddie Gibbs showing why the cosign was well founded.

The beat selection is fresh and different; true cacophonies of sounds almost soothe the ear at the beginning of each track. The most notable song has to be the Oil Money collaboration featuring Bun B, Black Keys, Chuck Inglish, and Chip The Ripper. Possibly one of the best collaborations this year, the epic production combined with the true Hip Hop made for a classic blend. Each artist brings heat to the table and not one verse slacks.

The entire project at first listen sounds cohesive and is an example of true gritty Hip Hop. Other standout tracks include title track Str8 Killa No Filla, Personal O.G and The Coldest. Str8 Killa is looking to be one of the best releases this year and it is NOT coming out for free download. It can be found on iTunes August 3.
