Mike Dreams Celebrates “Dreamer’s Poetry” Release at Minneapolis’ 7th St. Entry [Exclusive Coverage]

Download DJBooth's new App, The PLUG Minneapolis, Mn. -- On the evening of Wednesday, February 10, fans, friends and fellow artists gathered at downtown Minneapolis' 7th St. Entry (a smaller venue attached to the famous First Avenue) to celebrate the release of Mike Dreams' Booth-acclaimed debut album, Dreamer's Poetry (available now for streaming and free download, as well as physical purchase).

After a set by DJ Advance, the event's host, Rhymesayers emcee Toki Wright, took the stage to introduce the first act. Ashley DuBose, the up-and-coming R&B singer who joined Dreams on single We'll Be Alright, brought the night to a running start with energetic renditions of tracks like “Crazy Bout My Baby” and “Mr. Right.” Next, local rapper Cameron Mann – formerly known as Young Capo – transitioned into some more introspective material, including a record dedicated to his daughter.

After a brisk but energizing two songs from Toki himself, Detroit's Danami switched things up by performing his set in the midst of the audience. Finally, Minne-ap buzzmaker (and exclusive freestyle series participant) Mally took center stage to perform a few tracks off his acclaimed, Mydus-produced The Passion LP.

Excitement mounted as keyboardist A.J. Soul and emcee Hypel (performing as Mike's hype man) stepped onstage in anticipation of Mike Dreams' set – backed by Dreamer's Poetry intro monologue “The Dreamer,” the headliner made his grand entrance, before launching into his catchy, hater-blocking single “Gettin' Ours.” Crowd favorites included “Feelin' Out this World” and “We Goin' Worldwide,” for which Dreams was joined by MUSIC2DREAM2 singer Christina Fisher, and the pensive “Success Is...” which he prefaced by describing the leap of faith it took to abandon his evening nine-to-five (or is that five-to-nine?) in order to devote himself to music full-time.

Though it wasn't possible to pack the house by flying his online fans in from across the globe (the artist wished he could've made it happen, he remarked to me before the show), it was nonetheless a night to remember, both for the close-knit crowd and the rising stars whose talents were on display. To paraphrase “Success Is...”, though the Minn-ap emcee has yet to score a coveted major deal, the arrival of Dreamer's Poetry has brought him one small step – scratch that, one giant leap – closer to the dream he's been chasing.
