The ultimate irony of hip-hop is that in order to give the people something they truly feel, you’ve got to stop worrying about What They Think and simply make the music you want. It’s a lesson that newcomer 5ive Star has already learned well - on his DJBooth video debut the Cali born, South Florida raised rapper nabs a bouncing beat from producer Gonzoh that’s sure to set more than a couple heads to nodding. Thankfully Star manages to fit perfectly in the beat’s pocket, laying down hypnotically flowing bars that also contain no shortage of rewind-worthy worldplay. While his upcoming album, I Am 5ive Star, is still awaiting an official release date, those hungry for more 5 star hip-hop (terrible pun alert) can keep it locked to the DJBooth for updates and more new music.
