A$AP Rocky - Phoenix

Album:

The tendency of artists who die before their time to be mythologized into heroes has caused many a rapper to fantasize about his or her own demise—A$AP Rocky included. In his daydreams, though, the Harlem representative always rises, like a Phoenix, from the ashes. On the latest single off his major-label debut, coming on the heels of early November’s Angels, Rocky alludes to the dark thoughts that have crossed his own mind at other points in his life (“Bloody ink on my pad spelled suicide.”), and references other icons who have passed away in their prime. Despite its morbid tone, the cut ends on a hopeful note: “Now I’m walking on my own, y’all wish me luck.Danger Mouse provides a pensive synth backdrop for the emcee’s bars, and Francesco Carrozzini directs the artistic official visuals. Released in January via RCA, LONG.LIVE.A$AP. is available now in stores and online.
