It’s about time someone paid tribute to the video game that I spent hours, and about $10 million dollars in quarters, mastering as a child. Wait? What’s that? Aleon Craft’s new single Donkey Kong isn’t an ode to Nintendo’s classic arcade game but rather a clever sexual metaphor? Well never mind then. Produced by frequent beat companion SMKA (he of The 808 Experiment Vol. 2 fame), who thankfully incorporates video game-esque riffs without descending into gimmick, Donkey Kong once again (see his last feature Step Out) finds Aleon spitting some heavily stylistic rhymes about the best attributes of the fairer sex. Or, to be more specific, ass: “Her face from Los Angeles, her booty straight from Oakland.” As a former resident of the Town and a current resident of L.A., I have to say, Aleon clearly knows his booty geography. Still, despite its obvious appeal, I’ve got a feeling this is exactly the kind of track some will find a guilty pleasure, and others will find just guilty. So which one will it be Booth? Donkey Kong is the first single off Aleon’s untitled and unscheduled forthcoming EP.
