This... Is an EP

Say what you will about AntonGenius, but there’s no denying the man’s punctuality. Making its world premiere in The DJBooth, the Windy City buzzmaker’s latest EP leak is neither too early nor too late; it’s right On Time. Not that there’s ever a wrong moment to enjoy a record as fresh as this inaugural EP leak, which finds the emcee/producer looking back on the circuitous paths he traveled before finding his calling. The frequent Pugs Atomz collaborator shows a cinematic flair here, kicking off his narrative with an account of a childhood visitation by a disembodied voice, who informs him that he’s foreordained to do great things. It would be many years, however, before his date with destiny finally arrived. Over his own wistful sample work, Genius describes a series of turning points in his journey, from his abandonment of early B-ball dreams to his decision to trade his MPC in for a copy of FruityLoops. The result is a compelling (and head-noddable)  biographical sketch sure to strike a chord with anyone still unsure what they were put on this planet to achieve. Those digging it can look forward to more fresh beats and insightful rhymes on This… Is an EP, scheduled to hit The DJBooth’s mixtape page for free streaming and download February 13.
