I/O (Ayo Olatunji) - Strangers

Jordan Ware
Album:

Ayo Olatunji may be an unfamiliar face in The DJBooth but, as I always say, Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet. Psych—I never say that, and I might actually have to wash my keyboard after typing something that corny. Regardless, having listened to his first feature, I can assure you with near-certainty that you won’t regret giving the Big Apple singer/songwriter/producer (grandson of Grammy-winning Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji) a few minutes of your time. An ode to those chance encounters that blossom into something more, this freshly-released mixtape inclusion finds Jordan Ware blending electronic percussion, subdued synths and delicate string accents into a slowly-building instrumental backdrop for verses showcasing the artist’s simple and unadorned, yet undeniably soulful vocal style. The result is a refreshing change of pace from your usual R&B joint, and a intriguing invitation into Olatunji’s musical world. Want to hear more? You’ll find what you seek on the artist’s Isolation LP, set for release on July 24, for free from his official site.
