Basic Vocab ft. Rahsaan - Chill

Tony Galvin
A Better Way`

Don’t let the stage name fool you; as those who tuned in for the Miami trio’s Booth debut way back in January are well aware, Basic Vocab‘s sophisticated, lyrically-driven brand of hip-hop is a far cry from anything you’ll find in a Little Golden Book. New single Chill, on the other hand, is exactly as its title would suggest: a prime example of headphone-ready vibe-out music. Backed by group member Tony Galvin‘s hypnotically fresh blend of droning woodwind samples, subdued synth ambiance and old-school cuts, rappers Mental Growth and JL Sorrell go to work, dropping complex rhymes designed to hit you square in the subconscious: “...streets sizzling, Miami State glistening / the words dig deep even if you ain’t listening.Sneaker Store Terrorist Rahsaan delivers the coup de grace, taking aim at the sucker emcees and sharing a little hard-won street wisdom on the back end. Think this talented trio’s onto something? Then you can find plenty more where this cut came from on their sophomore set, A Better Way, released back in April and available now for purchase online.
