Hunger Pains

As one of the foremost hip-hop hotspots in (arguably) the biggest hip-hop city on the face of this Earth, Brooklyn’s birthed so many rap icons that listing them all off would take this entire track review and then some.  On his latest single (and Booth debut), Brooklyn Bridge, underground emcee BeKay joins forces with veteran rapper Masta Ace to pay tribute to the borough that made him the man and the artist he is today.  DJ Babu backs the underground up-and-comer and his legendary collaborator’s gritty yet affectionate lyrical depictions of life, love, music, and crime in their home streets with a fittingly nostalgia-drenched instrumental, fusing vocal samples from MC Lyte’s I Cram 4 U and Marly Marl & MC Shan’s Queensbridge-dedicated, KRS-baiting The Bridge into a Brooklyn-boosting hook.  Brimming with classic NYC flavor, this cut can be found on the emcee’s Hunger Pains LP, set to drop November 10th.  In the meantime, keep an eye out for BeKay’s Booth-exclusive freestyle, premiering after our series resumes in September.
