Black EL ft. Theo Martins & Esoteric - Chutes & Ladders (Remix)

Producer:
Durkin
Album:
Color Commentary Remix Series

To some life might seem like, well, the Game of Life: though there’s a measure of luck involved, you can be reasonably confident that good decisions (like attending college, or living in a motorhome on a fault line despite pulling a six-figure income) will yield financial security. If you ask Black EL, though, it’s a little more like Chutes & Ladders; in today’s unstable economic climate, it’s impossible to foresee the misstep that might send you sliding to disaster. The latest remix in the Boston native’s ongoing series with producer Durkin finds the beatsmith blending eight-bit synths and gritty breaks into a head-noddable backdrop for the headliner’s tongue-in-cheek ruminations on life’s ups and downs. Assisting on the guest tip, Rhode Island fave Theo Martins and newcomer Esoteric (a Boston underground mainstay) jump aboard to lace the back with some dryly allusive wit of their own – the latter earning special mention for an ingenious “Karmaloop/Marmaduke” couplet. Digging EL and Durkin’s latest revamp? In addition to keeping it locked for all future remixes, you can find original version of Chutes on EL’s Color Commentary LP, out now online.
