Street Medicine

Brisco‘s struggles may differ from Eminem‘s in the particulars, but he and Shady have one thing in common: after all that they’ve been through, there’s not much in this world that can scare them. On potential single Neva Dat the 305 representative takes a cue from 2010 smash Not Afraid, explaining that, with years of experience handling himself in the ‘hood, and a loyal crew standing behind him, he’s confident in his ability to tackle even the most treacherous situations. Jackpot takes a fittingly street-anthemic tack behind the boards, blending strings, sizzling synths and hi-hat-driven percussion into a whip-ready backdrop for the Panhandle State mainstay’s gruff lyricism. Adding the requisite dash of smoothness to the mix, singer/songwriter Rico Love lends his vocals to the chorus, as well as taking center stage for a soulfully acquisitive closing verse. Catchy? You’d better believe it. But will this be the record that cures Brisco’s debut full-length, Street Medicine, of its chronic delay-itis? Knock on wood… in fact, you may want to cross your fingers and toes while you’re at it.
