Some songs just make you happy to be Alive; the uplifting new single from Chase & Status is one of ‘em. Follow-up to late September’s reader-approved Count on Me, the latest release off the UK beat duo’s studio debut is an exhilarating drum-n-bass banger in the same vein as Rudimental‘s international hit, Feel the Love. Backed the twosome’s surging breakbeat and synth/brass fanfare, guest vocalist Jacob Banks (previously heard on Wretch32‘s Doing OK) delivers soaring verses centered around the theme of triumph over adversity. Perhaps even more striking than the record itself is Josh Cole‘s official video; shot on Montana’s Blackfoot Indian reservation, the seven-minute mini-movie offers a dark, multifaceted depiction of a Native teenager’s coming of age. Alive can be found on Chase & Status’s Brand New Machine LP, out now via Mercury Records/Universal Music.
