Chevy Woods ft. Mac Miller - The Drive

Posted 4 years ago
Featuring:
Producer:
Big Jerm
Album:
Untitled Mixtape (TBD)

It’s sad, but true: those who talk the loudest about self-sufficiency and personal responsibility are almost always those who have never come face to face with financial hardship. Well aware of how exasperating it can be to try to break through a romantic partner’s sense of entitlement, Chevy Woods presents his meditations on the subject in the most head-nodically chill fashion possible on his latest mixtape single, leaked via his Twitter over the weekend. The Drive finds the increasingly-ubiquitous Big Jerm serving up a characteristically blunted instrumental, layering mellow bell samples over a leisurely breakbeat as the headliner addresses a female who turns up her nose at any dude without his paper game locked down tight. Shaking his head at her hubris, the Pittsburgh repper cautions, “You say you get it on your own, huh? / Definition of that: lonesome.” Fellow Steel City repper Mac Miller takes a more playful tack on the middle, waxing poetic about late-night “movie sessions” in between snapshots from the grind. Think this hazy cut is “pelican fly”? Then stay tuned for details on Chevy Woods’ next mixtape, which has yet to receive either a title or a solid release date.
