Chrisette Michele - Epiphany

Producer:
Chuck Harmony
Album:
Untitled

Conventional wisdom indicates that a recording artist who releases an inspired debut effort is doomed to lose that creative spark on the follow-up, falling victim to the dreaded “sophomore slump.” The thing about conventional wisdom, though, is that it’s very often wrong.  Gold-certified R&B songstress Chrisette Michele, for example, couldn’t feel more confident about the progress of her second album; according to a MySpace blog post, the LP’s taken “no time to record,” and she’s on such a creative high that she’s dreaming new songs. Thus, the title of her Ne-Yo and Claude Kelly-penned lead single couldn’t be more appropriate.  Epiphany brings fans more of the jazz-influenced vocal stylings they’ve come to know and love, but the uniquely spacey touches Chuck Harmony contributes on the production tip are what really give this record hit potential.  Here’s hoping the rest of Michele’s yet-untitled second album, due out this spring, delivers on the promise of this crowd-pleasingly catchy cut.
