If the cancellation of Yo!MTVRaps were a human being, he or she would be old enough to drive—as of this past August, the seminal program’s been off the air for 17 years. (Not that any self-respecting hip-hop fan would want to hop in their hypothetical ride.) On Yo!MTVRaps II, the latest song release off his forthcoming street album, Shreveport rapper/producer Christian’Dee hops in his time machine to revisit the days when Doctor Dré (no, not that Dr. Dre), Ed Lover and Fab Five Freddy were still showcasing the latest and greatest from such iconic acts as Naughty by Nature and Public Enemy. Over his own dreamy, headphone-ready sample work, Dee trades nostalgia-laced but forward-looking verses with Reservation rhymesayer (and new Universal signee) Angel Haze. Enjoyed this musical trip down Memory Lane? Then don’t miss the rest of the dope material set for inclusion on Christian’s SHVPXRT tape, set to hit The DJBooth on October 29.
