A Yuletide staple since before any of us were born, Silent Night was penned in the early 1800s by Austrian priest Joseph Mohr and headmaster Franz Xavier Gruber. Which is to say, it’s long overdue for an update. With his first Booth feature, a promo single released to celebrate his label’s 1,000-Facebook “Like” milestone, singer/songwriter/producer Cisco Adler tries his hand at giving the song—along with a few other Christmas classics—a 21st-century makeover. Over his own production, a synth-backed collage of recognizable melodies and thematically-appropriate vocal snippets, the Malibu repper encourages listeners to “party till the snow comes down.” Mod Sun, B Rolla and Pat Brown guest, lacing the beat with engaging, seasonally themed bars. My favorite couplet: Brown’s endearingly awkward, “Dressed up like a tree on Xmas, and I’m havin’ sex with all three of my X-miss…es… tonight. Yeah.” Think Cisco and his homies should consider getting together for a full-blown Christmas album? Never say never. In any case, you can count on The DJBooth to bring you the latest from this talented up-and-comer over the holiday season and beyond.
