Cobe Obeah - Dark Night

Song of the Starz 2: Dark Night

If Adele was the new Imogen Heap, could Florence Welch (of “and the Machine” fame) be the new Adele? After a listen to Cobe Obeah‘s latest single, I’m thinking she’s a prime candidate for hip-hop’s next across-the-pond musical crush. On his latest mixtape selection, the Los Angeles native (and freestyle series alumnus) enlists producer Farbod to flip the UK soul/pop-sensation’s sweeping hit single, Cosmic Love, into a bracing theme song for his hustle. Over a backdrop of martial drums, glittering harp arpeggios and fluttering strings, the emcee grits his teeth and marches into battle, dropping bars as witty as they are ambitious. And I have to hand it to the man; few can walk the tightrope between hilarity and political incorrectness as dope-ly as Obeah does here, razzing both “cracker whites” and “hermaphrodites” in one clever couplet. Has this lush, lyrically-driven grind anthem left you craving more? Song of the Starz 2: Dark Night has yet to receive a drop date, but fans can, as always, keep it locked to the Booth for the latest news and tunes.
