Cory Jreamz - Nina

Producer:
Fergus Martin
Album:
Invictus EP

On his last feature, October’s Alive, the Houston buzzmaker rhymed with steely intensity about his determination to succeed in the game. Five months later, his resolve hasn’t weakened; if anything, the newly-released Nina finds him even more hell bent on attaining rap superstardom and all its luxurious trappings. Fergus Martin sets an ominous mood behind the boards, layering wailing vocal samples over a driving, bass-heavy rhythm section. When not reflecting on his career prospects and the purchases he plans to make once he finally blows (“Tell DaVinci I’ma buy some of his art.”), he drops cryptic references to an Argentinian shawty named Catalina, whose brother died staring down the wrong end of a 9mm pistol. Jreamz links up with Andrew Goodwin to direct the record’s ghoulish visual accompaniment. This moody cut is just one of many bangers to be found on the rhymesayer’s Invictus EP, out online as of December.
