CyHi The Prynce - Huey

Posted 2 years ago
Producer:
Anthony Kilhoffer, M16, TEC BEATZ
Album:

Last Thursday marked what would have been Huey P. Newton’s 72nd birthday, if the Black Power luminary and Black Panther Party co-founder were alive today. Given that it’s also Black History Month, it’s doubly appropriate to celebrate his militant commitment to social justice in song. As you might expect given its namesake, this joint is considerably harder-edged than previous single Coretta. Over Anthony Kilhoffer, M16 and TEC BEATZ‘s production, a street-ready arrangement incorporating chopped brass and vocal samples, the emcee touts his “God flow” and congratulates himself on raising the bar for lyricism in ATL. While political commentary isn’t the primary focus, CyHi does share some provocative comments on the topic of firearms: “I’m not a fan of gun violence, nor havin’ a strap / But get popped once and I swear that you’ll be scramblin’ for one.” An artful, black-and-white video by JBD rounds out the package. For more lyrically-driven bangers, cop the Black Hystori Project (Executive Produced by Kanye West) on Monday, when it hits the net for free download.
