Dan Black ft. Kid CuDi - Symphonies (Remix)
Already a sensation in the UK, where his debut set has been on store shelves since summer ‘09, Dan Black is now looking to bring his soulful take on electronic pop to listeners stateside – and who better to give him a leg-up than Kid CuDi, past collaborator with the eclectic likes of Ratatat, MGMT, and Sharam? On the newly-released official remix of single Symphony, our favorite lonely stoner jumps on board to name-drop Snoop and rail against hatin’ bloggers in a characteristically scatterbrained opening verse. CuDi’s melodic flows sound right at home over Black’s sweeping blend of strings and choral synths, and the former’s deadpan harmonies mesh surprisingly well with the latter’s reedier hook and bridge vocals. With a strikingly pretty sound and a well-matched guest feature, this remix should be a winner in the Booth, but the question remains: will Black’s style play equally well with American audiences as it did across the pond? We’ll have to wait until this spring, when UN hits U.S. record stores, to find out for sure.
