Dao Jones - King’s Ransom

Dao Jones

Dao Jones’ first Booth feature, EP outtake Ayo, earned the full spectrum of reader/staff reviews, with some praising the Big Apple native’s lyrically defiant (and defiantly lyrical) style and others questioning his ability to stand out from the pack. Well, I got good news (for those who loved him) and bad news (for those who didn’t): on unreleased cut number two (another Booth-exclusive world premiere!), he assures fans and haters alike that he ain’t never gonna change – not even for a King’s Ransom. While this joint finds Dao returning to many of the topics from his previous feature, spitting about his life philosophy and his commitment to artistic integrity, he switches things up considerably on the production tip, backing his confident bars with a pensive, slow-burning synth-breakbeat groove – and he tops it all off with some surprisingly smooth, pop-appealing sung vocals on the hook. Ransom may not have made it onto King Cole, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fit for royalty – right, Booth readers? If you agree, more fresh cuts await on Jones’ new, Booth-sponsored EP, coming soon to our mixtape page.
