In this era of inflated braggadocio, every rapper and their mother will tell you they’re the greatest to ever touch a mic—even if you don’t believe it, you’ve got to fake delusions of grandeur just to keep up. Be that as it may, I was able to suppress the usual eye-roll while hearing Mannie Fresh announce, “Now you are rockin’ with The very Very Best “ on the hook of Dee-1‘s new single. Call me crazy but, with the talent the N.O. repper’s showcased thus far in his career, I can see him getting there someday. In any case, the man’s got the right connects lined up; in addition to the aforementioned hip-hop vet, the record sees none other than Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) trading verses with the Jay, 50 and Weezy emcee over The MVP‘s lush, dreamy sample work. Fans will be able to find this record, previously-featured lead single Shut Up and Grind and more on #TheFocusTape, scheduled to hit the net October 9.
