Featuring:
Album:
The Soul Controller

Since 2005, most of the hip-hop played on radio and TV has had a gimmick of some kind, leaving longtime fans wondering “Where the lyricists at?”  Well, DJ Kay Slay feels your pain, prompting him to scoop up “The Last Lyricists” on the first single from his upcoming album, The Soul ControllerBusta Rhymes leads off with a memorable Leaders of the New School-style energy on the hook, setting the stage for both Camden’s Big Lou and mixtape legend Papoose to give a clinic on “true lyricism.”  To add some hip-hop history, the powerful beat is a sample from Bill Conti‘s Going The Distance (also sampled on Puff and Biggie’s Victory). The Last Lyricists is a reminder that hip-hop will live forever in the hearts of true MCs and DJs, but will consumers care?
