DJ Muggs ft. Chuck D & Jared (from HED PE) - Wikid

Album:

In a day and age when every third record seems to feature a wobbly bass breakdown, I think it’s safe to say that the novelty of mixing hip-hop with dubstep has worn off. When DJ Muggs is at the helm, however, it’s a different story. Inspired by the resemblance he saw between the young electronic genre and the proto-hip-hop grooves of T La Rock and Mantronix, the Cypress Hill member decided to pursue that connection on a forthcoming solo album. Following March’s Dizzee Rascal-assisted Snap Ya Neck Back, new single Wickid is emblematic of the set’s era and genre-bridging ethos, featuring Public Enemy frontman Chuck D trading aggressive bars with Jared of “punk-rap” crew HED PE over an instrumental that shifts between half-step rhythms and careening breakbeats. Like what you’re hearing? More bruising instrumentals and eclectic guest features await on Bass for Your Face, due out January 15, via Ultra Music.
