Ever since the success of the Ying Yang Twins’ ‘05 hit, Wait, the concept of softly spoken verses over a minimalistic beat has been trendy, as evidenced by David Banner‘s Play, Bun B‘s Git It, and Bubba Sparxxx’ Ms. New Booty. Over the past year, however, that growing trend has turned into more a fading fad and artists have strayed away from it… completely. Rapper Dolla apparently either missed the memo or just doesn’t care, because his new buzz single, I’m Tore Up, features the whisper rap/simple beat combo. Even if I’m Tore Up isn’t picked as a new single, it should still prove to be a banger in the car, thanks to club-ready production from Julien Bunetta. Dolla’s debut album, A Dolla and A Dream, is set to drop this summer.
