Dom Kennedy - Never

Posted 3 years ago
Producer:
The Futuristiks
Album:
Get Home Safely

Stalkin’, trickin’, waitin’, hatin’—all things you’ll Never catch Dom Kennedy doing. What the West Coast repper does do is spit, and damn well at that. A potential inclusion on Kennedy’s next street album, this laid-back, yet braggadocious jam finds him milking a simple rhyme scheme for all it’s worth. The Futuristiks work their magic behind the mixing boards, backing the artist’s lyrical calisthenics with airy vocal samples, windchimes and syrupy-slow percussion. While Kennedy claims, “I’m not smokin’ them Swishers,” you shouldn’t feel obliged to follow his example. Frankly, this cut feels tailor-made for blunted listening. How about it, readers: does Never deserve a spot on the Get Home Safely LP? Debate away—and, of course, keep it locked for the latest on the currently-unscheduled set.
