Dom Kennedy - O.P.M (Other People’s Money)

Posted 5 years ago
Producer:
Drewbyrd and Polyester
Album:
From Westside With Love 2

Regardless of what the third “P” was in the Naughty by Nature song (I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t property), the inspiration behind the classic cut was from “Other People’s Money”, a saying used by Treach’s neighborhood dealers moving in on another’s territory (thanks Wiki). Fast forward a few decades and we arrive at Dom Kennedy and his latest release, O.P.M. The L.A. native throws down his lyrical prowess on Other People’s Money, creating a narrative of his successes and just how damn good it feels to spend someone else’s paper. One of the standout components of this cut is from producers Drewbyrd and Polyester, who tap into another old school medley in the form of a synthy Grandmaster Flash sample. Whether you’re a fan or not, Kennedy has shown listeners time and time again that he has a message to share, and does so in a creative fashion. If you liked listening to other people’s music here, be sure to check out his From Westside With Love 2, out now via iTunes.
