Disclaimer: I had to send in this intro mad late. It needed to be tested out, if you know what I mean. Sorry, but when The-Dream releases a new single like Turnt Out, you can’t really understand the music unless it’s in its proper context. With that being said, let’s break this one down: acclaimed crooner and songwriter The-Dream teams up with frequent collaborator Los Da Mystro for a steamy ballad off of Dream’s latest LP Love King. Playing out like the soundtrack to (you guessed it) a passionate sex scene in your favorite urban drama, Turnt Out finds Terius Nash at his best. Utilizing his sweeter-than-chocolate-covered-strawberries falsetto to seduce the apple of his eye, The-Dream is impressive as ever. Turnt Out is an excellent display of songwriting and an even better showing of production with Los presumably channeling the spirit of Prince and Avant’s lovechild. Just sit back and listen, I’m sure you’ll find something to get you turnt out. And if this track doesn’t do the job, I’m sure something on Dream’s upcoming album Love King, available June 29, will.
