This morning I turned on the news and the media was discussing Alabama’s immigration law going into force. Within five minutes of being awake I had witnessed an example of bigotry hidden behind legal proceedings, a sickening way to start off your day. I’ve never met Drekidd, but I can safely assume he feels the same way I do, especially after previewing our premiere of his brand new American Dream. A cut that doesn’t hesitate to delve into the social issues that so often divide Americans, on Dream Drekidd touches on topics ranging from poverty to immigration, all while examining the judgmental views of the U.S.’s inhabitants: “You see gentrification I see haters / who are you so say who can be neighbors?” Despite the heavy subject matter Drekidd maintains a relaxed flow over the stringy and liquid production by Heartbeat, also grabbing Alex Isley for a hook that ultimately encourages the listener to stand up for what they believe in, whatever that may be. Fans can expect a plethora of more outspoken music on Drekidd’s upcoming project, Liberation, set to break free on our sister RefinedHype on October 12.
