Eligh‘s latest single may share its title with an ‘80s arcade classic, but don’t get it twisted; the Cali rhymesayer isn’t playing any games on Pac-Man. On the contrary, the issues he tackles on this cut are some of the most serious and pressing of our day. Released in response to the murder of Michael Brown and the ongoing unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, the record actually takes its title from a violent cop featured in the film Colors. Over producer DNAE Beats’ uneasy synth grooves, the artist expresses outrage at the bigotry and brutality displayed on the daily by police officers, while acknowledging that he—as a white man—will never truly understand the discrimination faced by his black friends. Pac-Man will appear on Eligh’s upcoming 80Hrtz LP, which is currently unscheduled. We in the Booth will keep you posted on the project as further details emerge.
