Some are in it for the money, some for the girls. Some are in it for the paparazzi flashes, or vacations on yachts, or the glory of seeing their name on DJBooth. Elite? Elite just wants to Sing My Song. Perhaps best known as J. Cole’s favorite producer when J. Cole isn’t producing, Elite is making his move towards solo success with his first Booth feature, the aforementioned Sing My Song, a self-produced joint that melds triumphant horns, marching band percussion, harmonious piano keys and about 47 other instruments. But we all know the man can make a beat, the real question is, can he rap? I’ll leave the answer up to the Booth, but at the very least I don’t think there’s any doubt that his steady, baritone flow and high-caliber lyrics are the mark of an emcee determined to make it: “I want it all, give me the ball, pressure’s on if this don’t fall.” Feeling undecided? I’ve got a feeling we’ll have at least one more chances to let Elite’s style sink in before his currently untitled mixtape drops “soon”.
