Elite ft. J. Cole - World Premiere

Like many rappers, Elite likes to emphasize the action-packed nature of his grind by comparing his daily life to a movie. Rolling with that metaphor, then, you can think of the DreamVille affiliate’s just-released, DJBooth-hosted debut release as his World Premiere. On this standout cut, the Connecticut repper rolls out the red carpet for a glitzy celebration of his success to date. Over his own swaggering funk samples (the artist does the bulk of his own production on the set), Elite showcases his zigzagging flows and his cinematic lyrical sensibility in action-packed bars. And, lest we forget that this is only the first chapter in his epic saga, he leaves the record’s ending wide open: “Better want this more than y’all, gotta put the pros before the cons / Ready gettin’ focused, steady gettin’ closer, cue the fade-out with a slow dissolve.” Complete with a hook worthy of a Best Supporting Actor nod by frequent collaborator J. Cole (no guest verse this time), World Premiere is just one of many bangers to be found on Elite’s Awakening tape, released last week and available here for free streaming and download.
