Emerson Brooks - Yellow (Coldplay Cover)

Album:
The Originals

Long before they were the massively popular, Jay-Z-beloved juggernaut they are today, Coldplay scored their first Stateside hit with Yellow, the plaintive lead single off debut full-length Parachutes. Having showcased his knack for eclectic covers with his February reimagining of Rihanna‘s Stay, T-Dot singer/songwriter Emerson Brooks puts his own spin on the UK rock giants’ breakout smash on a cut off his next digital release. While Brooks’ version is mellower than Coldplay’s original, lacking the crashing intro and bridge riffs, the artist’s filigreed, harmonically-rich take on Chris Martin’s vocal melody results in a revamp with a strong emotional punch. Feeling it? You’ll be able to hear Emerson Brooks rework more of his favorite songs on paradoxically-titled covers project The Originals, dropping digitally at an as yet-unscheduled date in the near future.
