All of Me

If I said that there’s nothing new under the sun, would you take that as a negative? I hope not because sometimes there’s nothing better than walking some familiar ground. UK sensation Estelle teams up with Rick Ross for a time capsule of recognizable sounds in her latest release Break My Heart. Estelle doesn’t belt the strength of a Lisa Fischer or a Stephanie Mills, but her style matches Don Cannon’s production perfectly, which itself draws on the flow of late ‘80s and early ‘90s R&B ballads, a perfect example of what our current generation would consider “old school” (does it remind anyone else of Champagne Life?). On the mic Ross once again captures the lush sounds of the “cocaine era” - this song would have fit perfectly on his debut album Port of Miami – and Estelle follows with easily smooth vocals. I think the more Estelle plays with her sonic influences, the more she’ll be able to create her own musical stamp on the game. Break My Heart will appear on Estelle’s upcoming album, All of Me, which is anticipated to drop sometime this year.
