DJ Burn One
Album:
Str8 Killa No Filla

If God wanted us to do right, why’d he make it so easy to do wrong? Here with a rap meditation about that very paradox is Indiana’s great hip-hop hope, Freddie Gibbs, and his new track Do Wrong. Rooted in some hustler-meets-soul production from DJ Burn One, whose boardwork here reminds me of the late, great Pimp C, Do Wrong is a slow burner ignited by the lyrically street flow that has earned Gibbs praise from the block to the pages of The New Yorker. Joining Gibbs on their journey to wrongness is ATL up-and-comer Pill – fresh off his highly rated Thoughts – who spits an enjoyable though not particularly remarkable guest verse. Hey, if doing wrong sounds like dope, I don’t want to be right. For more from the talented Mr. Gibbs be sure to check out his forthcoming album Str8 Killa No Filla, coming soon, and listen for our very own DJ Z to chop it up with Gibbs in an exclusive interview, coming later this month.
