Freddie Gibbs - The Ghetto

By | 6 years ago
Artist: Freddie Gibbs
Track: The Ghetto
Producer: Melvin L. Dinkins
Album: Str8 Killa No Filla

In his recent, Booth-exclusive interview with DJ Z, Gary, Indiana representative Freddie Gibbs discussed the feeling of having one foot in the music game and the other in the streets, admitting that until recently, he wasn’t entirely confident that another twist of fate wouldn’t send him back to The Ghetto where he started (as occurred following the dissolution of his deal with Interscope). That fear isn’t difficult to understand given the crime and hardship he describes on his latest feature, the lead single off his forthcoming street album. Over Melvin L. Dinkins’ jazzy, piano-led beat, originally featured on Milkbone’s ‘95 debut single, Keep It Real, Gibbs looks back on his early years in one of the most economically depressed cities in the nation, explaining,“To make it out where I’m from, you gotta do something special.” Gibbs clearly has, and he’s looking to do it even bigger in the future. For more from this rising star, check out Str8 Killa No Filla when it drops in late April/early May.
