Sorry Chicago haters. Anyone hoping the city’s stranglehold on the game would relax anytime soon is gonna have to wait, cause the next generation of Windy City emcees is on the come up, continuing with fast-risers Freddie Gibbs and Mikkey Halsted’s new track On My Own. (Ok, so Gibbs is from Gary, Indiana, but that’s Chicago-adjacent, right?)  Anyway, I don’t want to get too caught up in regional labels when we’ve got a track this banging on the table. I don’t say this often, but Maja 7th’s production on On My Own is so stellar I would bump the instrumental alone, so when we add in a drastically precise flow from Gibbs (who I continue to maintain sounds like a less-abstract Big Boi) and a heavy hitter guest verse from Chi-native Halsted, the result is nothing less than the definition of dopeness. On My Own is part of…wait for it…popular Chicago blog FakeShoreDrive’s FSD.com & Maja 7th Present: The Breakout mixtape, produced entirely by 7th and set to blow out eardrums on March 2. Oh, and keep an ear out for DJ Z’s exclusive interview with Freddie Gibbs, dropping this Tuesday.
